What Is a Challenge Reset in Prop Trading?

A reset restarts a failed or struggling evaluation, usually at a discount to a new challenge.

Example

FundedNext charges 10% less than the original fee for a reset after failing. If a $100K challenge costs $549.99, a reset costs about $495.

How prop firms apply it

Reset terms vary: some firms offer discounted resets, others don’t offer them at all. Apex removed resets in its March 2026 rebuild.

Practical tips

• Only reset after you’ve fixed what caused the breach.
• Compare the reset price with a smaller new account.
• Check whether a reset keeps your minimum days or starts fresh.

Reset vs new challenge vs smaller account

A reset usually keeps the same account size and rules, so it only makes sense if the size was right and the cause of the breach is fixed. If you breached because your stop sizes don’t fit the account, a smaller new challenge at another firm with looser rules may be better value than a discounted reset. Consider the total: two resets at 10% off still cost almost twice the original fee.

Questions to ask before resetting

• Did I breach because of one mistake I can name, or several?
• Would the same trades have breached at a firm with a static drawdown?
• Am I resetting to recover money, or because I’m ready?

If the honest answer to the last question is “to recover money”, wait a few days.
