Is Copy Trading Allowed at Prop Firms?

Copy trading ranges from mirroring your own trades across accounts to following a signal provider. Prop firms treat these very differently, and getting it wrong is a common reason for denied payouts.

Copying other people’s trades

Almost every firm bans copying third-party signals or trading the same positions as other traders. Firms detect identical trade timing and sizes across accounts. SabioTrade bans trade copiers and mirror trading; FundedNext doesn’t allow copying identical trades across accounts.

Copying your own accounts

Some firms allow you to copy trades between your own accounts at the same firm, since it’s still your strategy. Check the terms: rules differ between firms and even between programs.

Bought EAs and signal groups

If many traders run the same bought EA or follow the same group, their trades look identical and can be flagged. Customise settings and keep evidence of your own decision-making.

Protect yourself

  • Read the prohibited strategies section before trading.
  • Ask support in writing before copying between your own accounts.
  • Keep your own trade records.

Signal groups and courses

Many traders learn from courses or groups that share trade ideas. Taking the same trade as a group at the same time can look identical to copy trading. Make your own decisions on entry, size and timing, and journal why you took each trade. If a firm questions your trades, that record shows the decisions were yours.

FAQ

Can I copy trade on a prop firm account?

Copying third-party signals is banned almost everywhere; copying your own accounts is allowed at some firms.

Why do prop firms ban copy trading?

Because they’re evaluating your own skill, and identical trades across many accounts multiply their risk.

Can using a popular EA get me flagged?

Yes, if many accounts produce identical trades.
